Our market wouldn't be the same without our amazing volunteers. A big thank you to the amazing and supportive individuals who helped out during our 2014-15 season. Market Volunteers can assist in several ways and are needed rain or shine - just like our market:Set-up: Set-up involves arriving at the 61st Street Farmers Market at 7 a.m. and assisting with preparing the area for the Market by setting up booths and helping vendors.Info Booth: There are two shifts in the info booth: 8:30am - 11:30am and 11:30am to 2:30pm. The main duties are to welcome market goers, provide information, managing the coffee, and selling 61st Street Farmers Market merchandise. We will provide you with information and background on the Market, and a current plan for each market's vendors and activities.Sustainability Associate: There are two shifts for this role: 9:00am - 12:00pm and 11:45am to 2:30pm. This volunteer is stationed at the recycling, compost, and landfill station and will assist market shoppers with accurately throwing away paper, plastic, and compostable materials. This position will require a small amount of dirty work but you will be provided with gloves and a t-shirt or apron. Without assistants, we are unable to compost or recycle the large amount of trash generated from each market.Non-Market Day Tasks: We always need volunteers to assist with publicity and outreach - no orientation needed! Tagging @61Market on Instagram and Twitter, following us on Facebook or tagging #61stStreetFarmersMarket will help spread the word about our market. If you are a home cook, or good at following a recipe, we are attempting to cook through all the recipes of Chez Panisse Vegetables in one market season and posting the results online. Volunteers who have an interest in social media or a blogging presence should inquire about this role.Group Opportunities: There are always small one-time events that come up or during our market coordination leading up to the market. Poster posting, site clean up, cheerleader/traffic attendants are always needed to keep our market running smoothly. Groups should email in advance to identify opportunities that best fit their age group, size and availability. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the form attached to this page and email to kim@experimentalstation.org. A brief informal orientation session will be scheduled for new volunteers to learn about the market and what volunteers are asked to do when on-site.
